    Kigumo Girls High School in Muranga county is one of the very few success stories of the Kenya Economic Stimulus program of 2009/2010 introduced after the 2007/8 post-election violence and the great recession.

    Finance minister Uhuru Kenyatta therefore during 2009/2010 Budget appropriations allocated Ksh.22 Billion shillings for the program.

    The funds were to build schools, horticulture markets and other sectors in all 210 constituencies.

    The main goal was to trigger growth of the economy towards long-term stability, growth and development hence caution Kenyans from a wounded economy.

    Prolonged drought and increased oil prices and food prices also led to implementation of this program..

    Boosting economic recovery, expand economic opportunities in rural areas, improve infrastructure,quality education among others.

    In education the program set to build one secondary school per constituency to serve as a center of excellence.

    Kigumo Girls High School

    With this program came the inception of Kigumo Girls High School in Kigumo Constituency Muranga County.

    The project came to be with the stewardship of then Kigumo Member of Parliament Jamleck Irungu Kamau.

    Many other constituencies in the country have nothing to show of the ambitious program,Kigumo became the yardstick for others to learn from.

    The School’s Brainchild

    The Member of Parliament Jamleck Irungu Kamau ensured the actualization of fully fledged girls high school and the famous Muthithi market.

    Kigumo Girls high school remains a beckon of hope to many female learners in a constituency.

    Many girls from Kigumo constituency can now compete with giant boys’ schools like Njiri School and Kigumo Bendera High School.

    During the inauguration of the school the area MP said his aim was for every student in the constituency to enroll with secondary schools.

    He then introduced The Kigumo Constituency Education Endowment Fund to supplement the CDF bursary program.

    This was to ensure every child joined the secondary school they were entitled  to through their KCPE results.
