The Launch Of Samburu International Rugby 7’S Union

July 15th to July 17th will see the kick-off of Samburu Rugby Sevens that will feature both the Rugby League Version and Rugby Union at Kalama Conservancy, Samburu County.

A total of 50 teams to take part in the Rugby Union version that will have three tiers. The organiser’s World Sports Safaris Limited disclosed during the launch Tuesday at IBIS Hotel, Nairobi.

Mike Mulroy, the World Sports Safaris Limited executive officer, revealed that World Rugby Sevens Series teams. Europe will be invited for the rugby Union tournament that will be known as the Rhino Cup.

Meanwhile, Mulroy says, a total of 18 teams 10 from Africa, will battle it out in the Rugby League tournament that will be given a name later.

On the other hand, some slight rules define the two codes of the game in Rugby Union. Since they are the most popular in Kenya and Rugby League. There are no lineouts and contested mauls in Rugby League unlike in Rugby Union.

Nevertheless, the field of a rugby game is rectangular. It measures 68m wide and 112 to 122m long, while the Rugby union pitch measures 100m long and 69m wide.

However, rugby league is a full-contact sport that features 13 players on each side, with the shorter version having nine players. While Rugby Union features 15 players with the shorter version having seven players.

The Intention of launching the game is to draw top European teams. This includes World Seven Series that will have concluded in March. Also, those preparing for the commonwealth games are due from July 24 to August 8 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Over 80 countries are set to participate in the tournament to enhance environmental and Wildlife conservancy efforts in the country.

An estimated number of over 1200 players will take part in the game. Leaders present include; World Sports Safaris Limited Director Kevin Adhere, Kalama Conservancy Manager Tom Lolosoli. Including Samburu County chief officer of tourism and Wildlife conservation, Lydia Letinina.
